Renew Bayside: Expressions of interest

We urgently need visionary, proven ways to help our Bayside business community recover from a second extended COVID-19 lockdown.

That is why Peaceful Bayside is developing an innovative plan to Renew Bayside, based on the successful Renew Newcastle model.

We want to bring life back into Bay Street. Empty shopfronts are a missed opportunity. We are now calling for Expressions of Interest from creatives who want to set up a shopfront, and from supportive real estate agents and landlords.

Our recent Renew Bayside webinar featured special guest speaker Christopher Saunders - former Renew Newcastle General Manager. Chris shared his experience, knowledge and insights inspiring with how we can Renew Bayside.

The Renew model is based on making a city work for people with creativity, not capital. Retailers can borrow empty properties on a rolling 30-day licence agreement and it's cost-neutral to the property owner. In Newcastle, it led to a 60%+ drop in vacancy rates, 26% decrease in property crime and 500,000+ more tourists each year. It includes mentorship to the business owners along with a support network.

Renew Newcastle delivered $3million to the Newcastle economy and provided an opportunity for new start-up businesses that didn’t have the available capital to commit to long-term leases.

We are now calling for Expressions of Interest from makers, creatives, artists, photographers, fashion designers or other businesses who create work that is their own intellectual property and who may have a unique product or service to offer.

We are also seeking interest from landlords and real estate agents who may have space available, large or small.

Get in touch by filling in the form – we look forward to hearing from you.
